The Prado Museum in Madrid, is one of the largest, and most visited in the world. It has uniquely valuable paintings by the European masters from the sixteenth to the nineteenth centuries, with a large presence of Velázquez, El Greco, Goya, Titian, Rubens and Bosch. We must also highlight other important artists like Murillo, Ribera, Zurbaran, Raphael, Veronese, Tintoretto, Van Dyck, to name only the most relevant.
Due to space limitations, the museum displays a selection of 900 works of the highest quality, which has been defined as “the highest concentration of masterpieces per square meter.”
With the extension added by the architect Rafael Moneo, El Prado was projected to grow by 50%, with more than 450 works, out of a total inventory of more than 8,600 paintings.
